Art: Reflecting on my Painting
1. Are you pleased with your painting? why / why not?
Yes, I am pleased with my painting because it is one of my first times painting a Friedrick Vordemburg Guildewart painting.
2. What did you find easy when you created your painting?
Rubbing out the lines after I had ruled the grids was quite easy for me.
3. What part did you find tricky when you were creating your painting? -think about painting, ruling up the grid, measuring, using the co-ordinates, etc.
The part I found tricky when I was doing my artwork was trying to stay within the lines while I was painting.
4. Who / What helped you when you were painting?
Angel helped me rule the lines, and Samantha helped me pick the right paintbrushes to paint with.
5. What would you do differently next time? Think about: colours, painting, ruling up, etc.
I would choose red because no one else in the classroom did a blue painting.
6. What frustrated you when you created your painting?
What frustrated me when I was doing my artwork was when I did smudges.

A volcano is an opening in the Earth’ s surface. Did you know that the word volcano originally comes from the greek myth, The God of fire, Vulcan.
An erupting volcano can trigger tsunamis, flash floods, earthquakes, mud flows and rockfalls.Fiery mountains are places where magma has reached the surface and new rock is created. When Tectonic plates move it causes eruptions.
Mount Edgecumbe
Its English name was given by Captain James Cook on 2nd November 1769 after Sergeant Edgecumbe who was the sergeant of marines on his vessel.The mountain rises to 820 m above sea level.Located 50 km east of Rotorua and three kilometres east of Kawerau.

Living on a Lava flow
1) When did Mount Matavanu begin to erupt?
August, 1905
2) What was the difference between Mount Matavanu erupting and Mount St. Helens?
Mount Matavanu oozed out for 6 years but Mount St Helens went off like a mega bomb.
3) What happened to the lava flow?
Almost one hundred years later the lava flow cooled down.
4) Where did the villagers build their houses and what did they build to create a cool breeze?
The villagers built their houses on poles so breezes could pass underneath.
5) What is a pahoehoe?
Pahoehoe is a type of lava.
6) What do the girls do on weekday mornings?
The girls would walk to school on weekday mornings.
7) Why can the hot rock be usfull?
The hot rock can be useful for drying wet clothes, because it dries very carefully.
8) What does Porous mean?
Porous means its full of tiny interconnected air spaces.
9) How do they get their water?
The girls would use a pipe to get their water. Before the made the pipe they walked to the other side of the Island to get water.
10) What did the girls do to make the holes safer?
They helped their father to fill in the bigger holes to make it softer to cross the flow.
11) What started to grow in the 1980’s?
Coconut palms, Mangoes, Kapok trees and smaller plants dotted the surface.
12) What did the fierce cyclones do?
The fierce cyclones battered Savai’i and wiped out much of the new growth.

This is my Comparing Fractions Poster. I was given two fractions, 2 / 6 and 3 / 6. I have drawn tables to show which fractions are bigger. As you can see on my Comparing Fractions Poster three sixths is bigger than two sixths.
