NSW educational Assessment: Mathematics

This is a picture of the students in my classroom who participated in the Maths UNSW Global educational assessment. We received our certificates today at Assembly. It was really hard but I think I did well overall.

The Grid Challenge

This is a few pictures from the Grid Challenge that we tried out this morning. We had to get into pairs and grab a pencil. Each pair was given one paper. The paper displayed a large grid that had a clear line down the middle. This line showed the separation from each partners grid. We were also given two dice. Each time we rolled the dice, we used the numbers to look for arrays on our grid. The aim of the game was to fill out our grid as much as possible. When the time was up, we counted the left over squares of the grid. My partner Yvette had 8 squares left and I had 6. That meant I won because I had the least squares left over. I think that this game is very useful for when practising arrays or multiplication. The Grid Challenge was a lot of fun to play, and a really interesting way to learn maths.

Problem Solving Revision

This is my strategy to the Problem Solving Revision equation I solved today. I noticed that I struggled to use an algorithm when trying to subtract large numbers. My goal is to try and practise solving large subtraction equations by using algorithms, so it's easier/faster for me to solve.

Fast Factors: 8 Times tables

This is a screenshot from Fast Factors. I completed the 8 times tables, because I think I need to work on this more. If I continue with practising these times tables, I'm pretty sure I'll be a pro in no time.

Maths Strategy: Thinking Group Problem

This is my Maths Strategy Poster for the Week 2 question of the Thinking group problems. I solved this in the best way that was understandable for me. I think this was an easy question when I had to flow of how to solve it.

Times Tables Skill Building

These are my screenshots from Transum. I completed the 2, 5, 10 and 12 times table quiz's. I think Transum helps students build their skills in times tables.

Word Problem

This is my word problem poster. I had to create a word problem and answer it by using the strategy we learnt to use this week.

Maths Strategy

This is my maths strategy DLO. It displays what my maths group 'Ropu Tangoaroa' is learning this week. We are learning to solve multiplication problems using our 5 times tables.

The Maori Pioneer Battalion: Statistics

Room 5 is currently focusing on The Maori Pioneer Battalion because it links with our topic this term "Lest we forget". This is my graph that displays statistics of the wounded/deceased/returned soldiers from New Zealand's Native Contingent. The first side of the graph shows the natives that died, returned and were wounded throughout the war (From all contingents and reinforcements). The second side of the graph shows the amount of natives that died and were wounded. I did not include the number of people who returned in this graph because I did not find this information out.

Teach the Teacher Poster

In maths we had to teach our teacher a little bit of what we had learnt in maths yesterday. We each had to make a poster. My poster displays my theory of why percentages, fractions and decimals can be equivalent to each other. This poster shows how 50%, .50 and 50/100 are the same. I think I have a clear understanding of what percentages and decimals are after the lessons taught between these few days.

Fast Factors Results

These are my results from playing the Fast Factors (9 times tables). On the first two tries, I received the same result (19 seconds), but on the last result I received a score of 20 seconds. All my results are very similar. I want to try and learn my 9 times tables so I can receive a better score.
