Food, Glorious Food Task

Image result for canterbury quake book

Food is often mentioned in stories, or you might like to read a recipe book. Find something that you could cook for your family and make it.

In my book that I read, Maddy and Laura make cupcakes for Maddys father and his co-workers. This is a recipe I used from a site that is easy to follow. The title of the book I read is Canterbury Quake. Author - Desna Wallace. Genre - Fiction. This was recipe taken from: Easy Cupcakes

INGREDIENTS

  • 110g butter, softened
  • 110g caster sugar
  • 110g plain flour
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • 2 medium eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

METHOD

  1. Preheat the oven to 180C/ 350F / Gas 4. Line a muffin tin with paper cases.
  2. Put the butter and sugar in a bowl and beat until pale and fluffy.
  3. Sift the flour, baking powder and salt into the bowl.
  4. Beat the eggs and vanilla and add to the bowl. Beat until just combined.
  5. Spoon the mixture into the paper cases.
  6. Bake for 18 to 20 minutes until risen, golden and firm to the touch.
  7. Cool in the tin for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

Fillings and Flavour Suggestions

You can add a filling to the cupcake by cutting a cone from the middle of each cake with a serrated knife. Fill the hole with jam, lemon curd or one of these fabulous fillings:
Raspberry and Chocolate Cupcakes
Fill each cake with 1 tsp seedless raspberry jam and ice with chocolate buttercream.
Lemon Cupcakes
Fill each with 1 tsp lemon curd. Ice with lemon buttercream.
Caramel Cupcakes
Fill each with 1 tsp dulche de leche, ice with a single quantity of vanilla buttercream and top with sliced banana
Chocolate Cream Cupcakes
Mix 75g mascarpone with 2 tbsp double cream and quarter tsp vanilla. Put 1 tsp of this in the centre of each cupcake. Ice with chocolate buttercream.

Buttercream Icing Suggestions
For plain buttercream, beat 110g butter until soft, then beat in 110g icing sugar, a tablespoon at a time.
For vanilla buttercream, add half teaspoon vanilla extract and beat to combine.
For lemon buttercream, beat in 1 tbsp lemon juice- add 1 tsp at a time and taste after each addition.
For chocolate buttercream, beat in quarter tsp vanilla, 60g (2oz) melted and cooled milk chocolate and 2 tbsp cocoa powder.

Retell the story within 25 words

Image result for Canterbury Quake Book

I had to retell a book I had read within 25 words. I kept my sentences to the main points of the story so I didn't push my boundaries. The Title of this book is Canterbury Quake. The author is Desna Wallace. The genre is Fiction.
Retell:
It’s a diary of a youngster who experiences loss and struggle. Her city’s been hit by major earthquakes. When death occurs, she questions her existence.

Soundtrack Task

This is the Soundtrack Task. It includes the intention of the task right below the title. This task was made for the book I have read for my Holiday Reading Challenge.
Title: Canterbury Quake
Author: Desna Wallace
Genre: Fiction
How the music fits in:
The first song fits in because it explains how an Earthquake occurs in a song, the second song can be relevant to the deaths when the second mega earthquake hit Canterbury.

Casting Choices Task

Actress:
Kylie Rogers
Actress:
Caitlin Carmichael
Actress:
Sophie Nelisse
Maddy
Character: Laura
Character: Tessa
I chose: Kylie to cast as the main character in this movie because she has the features a reader would imagine Maddy to possess and they are the same age.
I chose: Caitlin to cast as Maddy’s best friend because they are the same age, she has a friendly face and has the ability to act the hardest or roles.
I chose: Sophie to cast as this particular character because they are the same age and from previous roles Sophie has played, I can see her fitting quite well into this one.

Scenario: The book I am currently reading is being made into a movie. Cast the characters and give an explaination of why you chose them.
This is my Casting Choices Task. I included three of the main characters in this story.
Title: Canterbury Quake
Author: Desna Wallace
Genre: Fiction

Design a cover task

This is my authentic cover of Canterbury Quake. It includes a picture of what Canterbury looked like when the quake struck and features as the background layer for the cover.
Title: Canterbury Quake
Author: Desna Wallace
Genre: Fiction
Why my cover is better:
I think my cover is better because you are able to have a more clearer understanding of what the books topic is about.

Make A Recommendation Task

Image result for Canterbury Quake book genre
I would recommend this book to students and pupils that are year 6.
1. The book is written at a stage they are able to understand
2. The main character is the same age as them. I think they would be able to compare things in their world and her world.
3. They can share the book with friends/classmates the same age as them.
