Reflection on the Production
By Fine
What is the storyline?
The storyline of our production is when Papa Earth Mother and Rangi Sky father, two maori gods decided to send their four sons ( Aoraki, Rakiroa, Rakirua and Rarakiroa ). The four brothers sailed in their canoe, their canoe became land. That land is still here today, it goes by the name of Te Waka o Aotearoa or The South Island of New Zealand.
What are the roles? Who are the backstage people who make the props? Lavinia plays the character of the beautiful Papa Earth Mother, Halaiano plays the character of the strong Rangi Sky Father. Aoraki is played by Latham, Rakiroa is played by Creedence, Rakirua is played by Cyprus and Rarakiroa is played by Thomas. Tuterakiwhanoa is played by Patrick and Mokopuna and friends are played by Samantha, Caitlin, Jasmine and Oh S’mar. Angel is the Narrator and the extra people are fishes, eels, flowers, trees and tall mountains. Miss Nichol helped us paint our Jigsaw puzzle, I painted the sun! Mrs Kelly helped paint and make most of the props. Angel and I helped paint the rock and then Caitlin helped us paint the Bush. Drawing the waka was very hard because it took a long time. Patrick, Halaiano, San Tat, Tuteraki’s Waka needs to be finished.
Angel, Samantha, Caitlin and I painted and drew the waka. Mr Bowden then put wood against the waka to support the waka.
What role is Room 5 taking in this year’s production?
Room 5 is taking the role of the Southern Alps.
What props need to be completed?
How did you make the props / costumes? (Did you work alone or in a team)
On most of the props we worked on in together or in a team because it would of took a long time, or we would take turns on finishing things.
Do people who have speaking parts need to work on their role? Have they made progress?
Lavinia has made more progress with being angry, Halaiano has learnt how to say the four brothers names, Angel is speaking louder every time we practise and I think I need to improve with my actions because I need to be my character ( A goddess ).
Are people using their voices and bodies to use expression?
Lavinia express how angry she is when she moves her hands and when her voice gets louder, Halaiano wipes the sweat off his forehead to show the audience he has worked hard at pulling the mountains, I have to make a grand entrance that I haven’t been doing for a while ( I really need to work on that ) and Tuterakiwhanoa when he has brought the seafood into the lakes and ponds.
What needs to be improved?
Ducks, eels, fishes, mountains, trees and flowers need to know when they shine, The four brothers need to get use to the waka. People need to be looking at the audience throughout the whole performance. People with speaking parts need to speak louder and use actions. They also need expression.
