Geography Task

Map words - Definition
Latitude -
It is a horizontal angle that determines where a location is in a map.
Longitude -
It is a vertical angle that determines where a location is on a map.
Orientation -
Being directed to a destination by using the clues on a map or the help of a compass.
Co-ordinate -
Using number lines and using their points to indicate a location.
Meridian -
The line on a map.
Equator -
The equator separates the Northern and Southern Hemisphere, where it is at latitude 0°
Mercator -
Mercator is the name of the person who discovered the Equator.
Continent -
A mainland or a large superior land masses joined together.


Defining words
Sextant -
An instrument that uses the angle of latitude to determine where their current location is.
Chronometer-
A modern clock/watch.
Tectonic Plates-
The land masses that we are on.

Sentences
Tropic of Cancer-
The most northerly circle of latitude on Earth.
Tropic of capricorn-
The most southerly circle of latitude on Earth
International date line-
An imaginary line that indicates the dates and times of a country.

This is one of the tasks we had to complete with Mr Strang in the past few days. We have been learning a lot about Geography.
